The iconic wetlands and swamps of Jurong Lake District of Singapore informed the lighting design concept of Westgate mall. The bold architectural move in the project was literally fracture of the block by a vertical canal. The water, cascading down across four stories, collects in pools and minor tributaries on the lower level. Lightbox's task was to position light to reflect pff the stream of water and to capture the motion of water on the atrium ceiling.
The mall's facade was inspired by the irregular roof lines of historic Singaporean shop houses. The facade lighting scheme also adopted this architectural intention, taking it as a point of departure the varying heights to accentuate the elevation.
